The announcement was made on June 17, 2026. The musical will feature songs by the iconic Filipino band Hotdog.

The character of Annie Batungbakal was first portrayed by National Artist for Film Nora Aunor in the 1979 film of the same name. Atasha expressed her overwhelming joy upon learning she secured the role. 'My first reaction was tears of joy. It felt like a full-circle moment for me,' she said in an interview in the capital. 'I started in theater, and that's when I realized I really wanted to enter this industry. It made me realize my passion for the performing arts and the craft.'
