Star-Studded Cast and Creative Team

Hathaway, renowned for her iconic roles in blockbusters like Interstellar and The Devil Wears Prada, takes on the lead role of a global pop star in this A24 production. The narrative centers on her character, "Mother Mary," as she reconnects with her estranged best friend and former costume designer, Sam Anselm, portrayed by Michaela Coel of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever fame. Their reunion, set on the eve of a major comeback performance, unravels deep-seated tensions and unresolved conflicts, delving into the complexities of fame and fractured friendships.

The film is written and directed by David Lowery, whose acclaimed previous works include The Green Knight and A Ghost Story. Lowery's direction promises to explore profound themes of identity and the pressures of pop stardom, adding depth to the thriller genre.

Original Music and Supporting Cast

Mother Mary boasts an impressive lineup of original music from artists such as Charli XCX, Jack Antonoff, and FKA Twigs, with the latter also making an appearance in the film. Two singles associated with the project are set for release in March: "Burial," performed by Hathaway, and "My Mouth is Lonely For You," performed by Twigs. Additionally, a digital soundtrack featuring seven songs is expected to drop in April, enhancing the cinematic experience.

The supporting cast includes notable talents like Hunter Schafer from Euphoria and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, as well as Kaia Gerber from Babylon and Shell. This ensemble adds further star power to the production.

Mother Mary marks the second A24 title that CreaZion Studios plans to release in the Philippines this year, following the announcement of Backrooms for a June 3 local release. The studio has emphasized that its acquisition strategy is part of a broader effort to bring diverse international films and storytelling to audiences in the Philippines and Southeast Asia, fostering cultural exchange and cinematic appreciation.
