The Department of Health-Metro Manila Center for Health Development (DOH-MMCHD) will offer free vaccines against measles and rubella to children aged six to 59 months in Metro Manila. This initiative is part of the next phase of the Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR SIA) in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Vaccination Schedule
The DOH-MMCHD announced that the vaccination drive will take place in June 2026. Parents are encouraged to have their children vaccinated during this period. "Pabakunahan ang inyong mga anak ngayong darating na Hunyo 2026," the DOH-MMCHD stated. "Makipag-ugnayan sa pinakamalapit na health center sa inyong lugar para malaman ang schedule ng pagbibigay ng bakuna." This translates to: "Have your children vaccinated this coming June 2026. Coordinate with the nearest health center in your area to know the schedule for the vaccination program."
Previous Phase in Mindanao
The DOH initially launched the MR SIA in Mindanao in January 2026, targeting 2.8 million children for vaccination. By the conclusion of the Mindanao phase in February, the DOH reported that approximately 2.3 million children, or 82 percent of the target, had been vaccinated. This indicates a need for continued efforts to achieve higher coverage rates.
Importance of Vaccination
Measles and rubella are highly contagious viral diseases that can lead to serious complications, especially in young children. Vaccination remains the most effective way to prevent outbreaks and protect public health. The DOH urges all parents and guardians in Metro Manila to take advantage of this free immunization program to safeguard their children's health.
