Three siblings died from electrocution while attempting to rescue each other in their apartment in Barangay Pinyahan, Quezon City, on the evening of July 10, 2026. The victims, aged 19, 15, and 12, were rushed to a nearby hospital but were declared dead on arrival.
Incident details
According to initial investigations, the tragedy occurred around 6 p.m. when one of the siblings was retrieving clothes hanging on a metal clothesline outside their apartment. Authorities believe the victim accidentally touched the metal clothesline, which had become electrified, and called for help.
Upon hearing the cries, the 19-year-old sibling ran to assist, followed by the 12-year-old. Both were also electrocuted when they touched the same electrified area. A fourth sibling, the youngest, attempted to help but stopped after feeling an electric shock when touching a nearby window. Realizing the danger, the child went downstairs to seek help from neighbors.
Response and findings
Responders from the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office arrived promptly and transported the three victims to the hospital. Despite rescue efforts, all three were declared dead.
Initial findings from the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) revealed that the circuit breaker connected to the apartment's air-conditioning unit appeared to be grounded, increasing the likelihood of an electrical fault within the building's wiring system. Investigators continue to examine the scene to determine the exact cause, including whether defective wiring or the metal clothesline caused the tragedy.
