Super Typhoon Bavi Brings Rains and Strong Winds to Cebu

Super Typhoon Bavi, locally named Inday, is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Tuesday evening, July 7, 2026, or early Wednesday morning, July 8, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa). While the storm will not directly hit Cebu, the province will experience cloudy skies and rainfall.

Rainfall and Wind Forecast

Pagasa Visayas Weather Specialist Ever Tenio said in a phone interview with SunStar Cebu on Tuesday that Metro Cebu can expect less than 15 millimeters of rainfall per day from Thursday to Saturday, resulting in light to moderate rains. However, Tenio warned that the super typhoon will strengthen the southwest monsoon or habagat, causing stronger winds and occasional heavy rains.

“Bavi will pull the habagat, so we will really experience cloudy conditions… but in terms of wind, we will experience strong or gale force winds in the Visayas region,” Tenio added.

Preparedness Measures

The Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) assured the public that Cebu will not be directly hit by the typhoon. Despite this, PDRRMO focal person Dennis Francis Pastor said during a press conference at the Cebu Provincial Capitol on Tuesday that they have prepared for possible emergencies, especially in disaster-prone areas, and are continuously coordinating with local government units (LGUs).

“We are also monitoring with Pagasa and other agencies. At the moment, we already have rescue boats, and our responders are on standby,” Pastor said.

The PDRRMO is also monitoring areas near rivers such as Barangay Cotcot in Liloan, Toledo City, and the municipality of Balamban.

Typhoon Track

As of 3:00 a.m. on July 7, the tropical cyclone was located 2,010 kilometers east of Central Luzon and moving west-northwest. It is expected to exit the PAR on Saturday, July 11.
