On Saturday, May 30, 2026, I took the time to attend a much-anticipated annual event organized by my friend Jefferson Rodrigo. The event, called Hamak Sangit Version 5, was held at Lantoy Campsite in Sitio Cabalawan, Barangay Tabayag, Argao, one of the towns in southern Cebu known for its beautiful mountains and natural scenery. For many outdoor enthusiasts, this gathering is a major reason to celebrate. But for me, the real excitement lay in the journey to the campsite and the unique sights we encountered along the way.
The Journey to the Campsite
As a mountaineer who has long explored various mountains in the Philippines, I have learned that no matter how many peaks I have climbed, each trek has its own story and experience. The feeling of anticipation for the upcoming views, the wonders of nature, and the simple act of walking are invigorating.
Along the Bugasok River
One of the most memorable parts of our ascent was the path along the Bugasok River. Here lies one of the hidden treasures of Argao—the beautiful Bugasok Falls in Barangay Conalum. Before seeing the falls, one first hears the loud sound of water rushing through the forest. Far from the noise of the city, the area offers remarkable silence and peace. The only sound is the continuous roar of water leaping from the rocky cliff.
A Perfect Destination for Travelers

During our walk, we encountered children bathing and playing in the stream to cool off from the heat of the sun. Their laughter and joy brightened the peaceful atmosphere of the place and reminded us of the simple yet precious relationship between the community and nature.
