The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reported that nearly 199,000 individuals have been affected by the ongoing unrest of Mayon Volcano. According to DSWD spokesperson Irene Dumlao, more than 52,000 families have been impacted by the volcano's activity. Of this number, 1,444 families, equivalent to 5,459 individuals, are currently staying in evacuation centers.
Immediate Response and Aid Distribution
Following the recorded strombolian eruption over the past weekend, the agency immediately distributed family food packs to affected communities. The DSWD also assured that there is sufficient food, drinking water, and non-food items for internally displaced persons, especially those in evacuation centers. To date, over 71,000 family food packs have been distributed as assistance to local governments.
Cash-for-Work and Psychosocial Support
Meanwhile, a cash-for-work program is being implemented for affected farmers, while psychosocial support continues to be provided to children and other vulnerable sectors. Women and child-friendly spaces have also been set up in evacuation centers to provide learning activities for children and help reduce the stress and anxiety they are experiencing.
According to the latest data, the total value of humanitarian assistance distributed by the DSWD has reached over P117 million as of Monday morning.
