The Aboitiz Foundation has extended crucial housing assistance to families in San Remigio, Cebu whose homes were damaged by the recent magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck the region.
Substantial Support for Earthquake Victims
On Thursday, November 27, 2025, approximately 225 families in San Remigio received vital assistance totaling P3.3 million from the Aboitiz Foundation. This comprehensive aid package is specifically designed to help residents rebuild their homes that suffered either partial or complete destruction during the powerful earthquake.
The initiative has received strong support from local government officials, with San Remigio Mayor Mariano Martinez expressing appreciation for the timely intervention. Anton Perdices, Chief Operating Officer of Distribution Utilities at Aboitiz Power, emphasized that this program represents a significant step toward helping affected families reconstruct their damaged residences and restore normalcy to their lives.
Structured Assistance Based on Damage Assessment
According to Fred Dalumpines, Impact Lead for Climate Action at Aboitiz Foundation, the 225 beneficiaries were carefully categorized based on the extent of damage to their properties. The assessment revealed that 168 households sustained partial damage, while 57 homes were classified as totally damaged.
The foundation has implemented a tiered assistance program to address the varying needs of affected families:
- For partially damaged homes: Each beneficiary receives P10,000 worth of support, distributed as P3,500 for cement, P3,500 for construction materials, and P3,000 as cash-for-labor assistance.
- For totally damaged homes: Each family obtains P30,000 in comprehensive aid, comprising P6,000 for labor, P12,000 for cement, and P12,000 for construction materials.
Collaborative Efforts Ensure Efficient Distribution
The Aboitiz Foundation has worked closely with the local government unit and the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office to implement a thorough validation process. This collaborative approach ensures that assistance reaches the intended beneficiaries while preventing duplication of aid distribution.
This coordinated effort between private sector organizations and local government agencies demonstrates an effective model for disaster response and community rehabilitation. The partnership aims to not only provide immediate relief but also support the long-term recovery of San Remigio communities affected by the seismic event.
The timely intervention comes as affected families continue to work toward rebuilding their lives and properties following the destructive earthquake that impacted the Central Visayas region.
