Bacolod Mobilizes Relief for Typhoon-Affected Communities

In a significant response to the devastation caused by Typhoon Tino, the City of Bacolod has successfully distributed crucial food assistance to vulnerable sectors of its community. The relief operation, which took place on November 14, 2025, specifically targeted at least 34 fisherfolk organizations and Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) across various facilities, providing a vital lifeline in the storm's aftermath.

Coordinated Distribution Across Coastal Barangays

The initiative was spearheaded by the City Administrator's Office (CAO) and the Public Affairs and Assistance Division (Paad). The aid package was substantial, comprising 62 sacks of rice and more than 2,000 canned goods. This support was strategically delivered to residents in 12 coastal and riverside barangays, areas often hit hardest by typhoons.

The relief efforts were bolstered by donations from private organizations, which were also distributed to the following barangays:

  • Sum-ag
  • Tangub
  • Singcang-Airport
  • Pta. Taytay
  • Pahanocoy
  • Banago
  • Barangays 1, 2, 3, 10, 14, and 16

Relief teams, under the leadership of Executive Assistants April Mayo and Ariel Guides, worked in close coordination with local barangay officials to ensure the efficient and fair distribution of all donations to the affected families.

Community Gratitude and Support for PDLs

Joaquin Malacad, the chairperson of the City Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (CFARMC), expressed profound gratitude for the immediate assistance. He stated, "This is a big help, and we are happy and thankful knowing that a lot of organizations are looking after us." This sentiment highlights the critical importance of community and government support in times of crisis.

In a parallel effort to ensure no one was left behind, the City Mayor's Office, together with the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD), organized the distribution of 15,000 eggs to PDLs. This essential nutrition was delivered to multiple detention and social welfare facilities, demonstrating a commitment to the welfare of all citizens. The recipient facilities included:

  • Metro Bacolod District Jail (MBDJ) Male Dormitory in Singcang-Airport
  • MBDJ Male and Female Dormitories in Handumanan
  • Barangay Silangan Reformation Center
  • Social Development Center for Children in Conflict with the Law
  • Balay Pasilungan
  • Evacuation centers in Barangays Tangub, Vista Alegre, 1, 2, and the Arao Evacuation Center

This comprehensive relief operation underscores Bacolod City's proactive approach to disaster response and community recovery, ensuring that aid reaches both the general public and those in custodial care following a natural disaster.
