Governor Nelson Dayanghirang of Davao Oriental has publicly acknowledged the donation, expressing deep gratitude for the timely assistance. He emphasized that the funds will be instrumental in supporting rehabilitation programs and helping affected communities rebuild their lives. In a statement, Dayanghirang noted that this aid strengthens ongoing efforts to restore normalcy in the province.
Symbol of Unity Amidst Adversity
In a Facebook post dated April 19, 2026, the Bohol provincial government highlighted the significance of this gesture, stating, "This proves that despite the distance, the provinces unite to help one another in times of disaster." The donation was formally handed over on April 14 by Ryan R. Palma, the administrative officer of the Bohol Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), to Governor Dayanghirang, symbolizing a commitment to inter-provincial cooperation.
Widespread Support from Multiple Sources
Beyond Bohol's contribution, Davao Oriental has received additional assistance from various entities. Notable donations include ₱2.7 million in cash aid from Davao City and a substantial ₱158 million from the national government. Other contributors include the Department of Finance with ₱900,000, the Land Bank of the Philippines providing ₱500,000 plus relief packs, and the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Davao offering goods valued at ₱4 million. The local Filipino-Chinese community also contributed ₱700,000, showcasing a broad-based response to the crisis.
Impact of the October 2025 Earthquakes
The double earthquake event on October 10, 2025, had a devastating impact on Davao Oriental, with magnitudes recorded at 7.4 and 6.8. The disasters resulted in significant damage, including 24,413 houses damaged and 1,190 destroyed. Infrastructure losses are estimated at ₱143.40 million. As of October 2025, the calamity affected 362,789 families, equivalent to 1,511,854 individuals across 705 barangays in the Davao and Caraga regions.
The Bohol provincial government reiterated its readiness to assist other provinces affected by disasters, reinforcing the spirit of unity and cooperation among Filipinos during challenging times.
