Governor Pamela Baricuatro of Cebu is taking decisive action to secure long-term housing for families displaced by Typhoon Tino, whose homes were swept away by severe flooding.
Assessment of Potential Relocation Sites
The Provincial Capitol will collaborate with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to thoroughly evaluate potential relocation areas. The sites under consideration are located in Talisay City and Minglanilla City. While some of this land is currently classified as agricultural, Governor Baricuatro emphasized the need for a detailed assessment by the DENR to ensure the areas are safe for human habitation before any development begins.
International Support for Disaster Recovery
In a significant boost to the recovery efforts, 30 modular houses have been donated by Fujian Province in China. This donation is intended for residents whose houses were destroyed by successive calamities. The deed of donation was formally signed by Chinese Consul General Zhang Zhen, representing Fujian Province, as part of the sisterhood agreement between the two regions.
These modular houses are a practical solution for rapid shelter, as they are prefabricated structures that can be quickly assembled on-site. This initiative is a key component of Governor Baricuatro's long-term plan, which focuses not only on immediate relief but also on establishing sustainable and secure communities for those affected by the recent disasters.
