Cebu City Faces Landslide Incidents Following Prolonged Heavy Rainfall

In the wake of several days of intense and continuous rainfall, multiple barangays in Cebu City have reported incidents of landslides and soil erosion. Fortunately, there have been no casualties or injuries recorded in these events, and all affected roads remain accessible to the public, according to local authorities.

Specific Barangay Incidents and Immediate Responses

City Councilor Dave Tumulak provided details on the affected areas. In Barangay Kalunasan, two trees fell after the ground softened due to the rain, impacting four families residing in the vicinity. While no one was harmed, strict monitoring has been implemented in the area to assess potential dangers.

In Barangay Budlaan, a landslide occurred, prompting Mayor Nestor Archival to collaborate with private contractors to assist in cleanup efforts. Authorities have confirmed that the road in Budlaan has been cleared and is now fully passable.

The Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CCDRRMO) was dispatched to Barangay Mabini to investigate another landslide incident. Additionally, in Barangay Buot, near a school, soil erosion was reported, and a response team was quickly sent to ensure public safety.

Widespread Impact and Community Preparedness

Beyond Budlaan, Mabini, Buot, and Kalunasan, landslides were also reported in the barangays of Sapangdaku and Sirao. Response teams have been deployed to all affected locations to manage the situations effectively.

Despite the numerous incidents, Councilor Tumulak emphasized that there were no fatalities or injuries, and roads continue to be navigable. He also noted an improvement in disaster awareness among residents, who are now more alert and responsive to advisories during periods of heavy rainfall.

Ongoing Safety Advisories and Precautions

Tumulak continues to remind residents living near slopes and landslide-prone areas to remain vigilant and adhere to evacuation and safety advisories issued by the government. This proactive approach aims to mitigate risks and enhance community resilience in the face of natural disasters.
