DSWD Quality Checks 20,000 Food Packs in Zamboanga

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the Zamboanga Peninsula is intensifying its efforts to ensure that relief goods are safe and ready for distribution when disasters strike. This crucial initiative involves meticulous quality checks on thousands of Family Food Packs (FFPs) stored in regional warehouses.

Rigorous Inspection of Essential Supplies

On Saturday, November 29, DSWD personnel carried out a major quality assurance operation at the regional warehouse located in Tetuan village, Zamboanga City. The team inspected approximately 20,000 Family Food Packs to verify their condition and safety for future beneficiaries.

According to a statement from DSWD-Zamboanga Peninsula, the inspection process is designed to ensure that all relief goods are in perfect condition. This means the items must be free from dents, rust, and other damage, and critically, all contents must be within their expiration dates.

Composition and Scope of Relief Assistance

These FFPs are a lifeline for families grappling with the aftermath of calamities. Each pack is designed to sustain a family of five for two days. The standard contents include staples such as rice, canned goods like sardines and corned beef, and beverages.

The department's support extends beyond food. To provide comprehensive aid, the DSWD also supplies non-food items and ready-to-eat meals, ensuring that the immediate needs of affected communities are met from various angles.

A Collaborative Effort for Disaster Response

The quality checking drive is a continuous process. Just a day before the Zamboanga City inspection, on Friday, November 28, another 8,742 FFPs underwent the same rigorous process at a different DSWD regional warehouse in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur.

This large-scale operation is spearheaded by the Disaster Response Management Division. They are supported by a dedicated team of Quick Response Team volunteers drawn from various divisions and programs within the agency. These include the Innovations Division, Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, Promotive Services Division, Protected Services Division, and the Office of the Regional Director.

The DSWD-Zamboanga Peninsula reaffirmed its commitment to the immediate and sustained delivery of quality relief assistance to communities impacted by disasters, underscoring its role as a reliable pillar of support during emergencies.
