According to records from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Bacolod, the fire originated in a residential area at precisely 11:06 a.m. The flames quickly engulfed neighboring houses constructed from both light and concrete materials, leading to widespread damage. Firefighters faced significant challenges as narrow passageways impeded access for fire trucks, including volunteer units dispatched to the scene.
Firefighting Efforts and Challenges
In response to the rapidly spreading blaze, several BFP fire trucks and volunteer units were mobilized. However, the tight confines of the area forced firefighters to employ alternative methods, such as pulling and connecting water hoses to reach the affected properties. Despite these obstacles, the fire was successfully extinguished at 12:37 p.m., after burning for over an hour.
Extent of Damage and Casualties
Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) records, updated as of 1:15 p.m., revealed that of the 89 houses impacted, 80 were completely destroyed, while nine sustained damage. The BFP escalated the situation to a fourth alarm status, indicating the severity of the incident, which affected at least 204 families comprising 849 individuals.
Ongoing Investigations and Relief Efforts
Arson investigators are currently conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire. In the meantime, the City Government, with assistance from the DSSD, has stepped in to provide immediate aid. Food packs have been distributed to affected individuals who are temporarily sheltering at the barangay evacuation center.
