A junk shop located in Lower Dobdob, Barangay Dobdob, a mountainous area in the town of Badian, was completely razed by fire at around 12:45 PM on Sunday, April 26, 2026.
Fire Incident Details
The Badian Municipal Police Station received a phone call from residents requesting assistance due to the fire outbreak at the junk shop owned by Samuel Cui Mabuting, 56, a resident of Barangay Dagatan in the same town. Police immediately coordinated with the Bureau of Fire Protection to dispatch a fire truck to the scene.
Upon arrival of the police, the entire junk shop was already engulfed in flames while firefighters continued efforts to extinguish the fire.
Fire Truck Overturns
The town had one fire truck that initially responded to the fire, but it failed to reach the scene after overturning on the road. Due to the accident, water spilled from its tank, and the firefighters on board were injured.
According to witness Melinda Silvano Antecristo, 33, a resident of the area, the fire started from dry grass along the roadside near the junk shop. The fire quickly spread to the junk shop, which contained plastic containers and other highly flammable light materials.
The owner, Mabuting, was not present as he had left for Cebu City.
Cause of Fire
Investigation revealed that a cigarette butt discarded in the grassy area may have ignited the blaze.
Damage from the fire is estimated to reach up to P10,000. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported except for those on board the small fire truck that overturned.
