President Marcos Jr. Urges Swift Action on Disaster Relief and Fund Distribution
President Ferdinand Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has issued a clear directive to concerned government agencies, emphasizing the need to accelerate their response efforts during natural calamities. This urgent call was highlighted by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto following a crucial meeting with key departments involved in disaster management.
Streamlining Processes for Faster Aid Delivery
During the meeting, Recto underscored the President's mandate that assistance must reach affected families promptly and without unnecessary delays. He stressed the importance of simplifying the current evaluation and approval procedures for requests from local government units. By addressing these bottlenecks, the government aims to expedite the release of essential aid and financial support to communities in need.
Enhancing Coordination Among Key Agencies
The discussion involved representatives from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). Recto instructed these agencies to ensure that allocation mechanisms under the National DRRM Fund–Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Assistance Program (NDRRM-DRRAP) facilitate rapid implementation of programs in disaster-stricken areas, rather than creating obstacles.
Commitment to Improved Disaster Response
In response to the President's directive, the DBM, OCD, and DILG have pledged to strengthen their collaboration. They committed to working more closely together to ensure efficient and well-coordinated disaster response operations. This enhanced cooperation is expected to lead to more effective relief efforts and better support for Filipinos impacted by natural disasters.
