The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) recorded new lava effusion and collapse-fed pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) at Mayon Volcano past midnight on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. According to PHIVOLCS, the effusive eruption of the volcano continues for the 141st day.
State volcanologists shared sped-up camera footage showing the flow of lava and PDCs through the gullies of Bonga, Basud, and Mi-isi. These events were recorded at approximately 10:53 p.m. and 11:42 p.m. on Monday, and at 12:32 a.m. on Tuesday. Earlier on Monday evening, PHIVOLCS also reported new lava effusion accompanied by collapse-fed PDCs and minor Strombolian activity at the volcano.
Based on the agency's monitoring, lava and volcanic materials flowed into the Mi-isi and Basud gullies around 7:20 p.m. and 7:26 p.m. on May 25. Mayon Volcano remains under Alert Level 3, indicating a state of intensified unrest or magmatic unrest.
