A senior citizen died after drowning while fishing on Sunday, May 3, 2026, in Sitio Bonbon, Barangay Ocaña, Carcar City. The incident occurred at around 10:00 a.m.
Victim Identified
The victim was identified as Apolonio Amanduron Tanoy, 61 years old, married, and a resident of Sitio Lagang, Barangay Ocaña. He was declared dead on arrival (DOA) at the Cebu Provincial Hospital-Carcar City.
Investigation Details
According to the investigation conducted by Police Staff Sgt. Argie Noel Espinosa and his team, the victim went fishing early in the morning with his neighbor, Eval Porcia, an adult. Porcia told the police that they were fishing simply, without any equipment or boat.
When the tide came in, they swam toward the shore. However, the current was very strong, and the victim was swept away. Porcia rescued the victim and brought him to the shore, where he administered CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation). Despite these efforts, the victim remained unresponsive.
They called the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), which transported the victim to the Cebu Provincial Hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.
