Three siblings died from electrocution on Friday evening, July 10, 2026, while attempting to rescue one another at their apartment in Barangay Pinyahan, Quezon City. The victims, aged 19, 15, and 12, were rushed to a hospital but were declared dead upon arrival.
How the tragedy unfolded
The incident occurred around 6 p.m. when one of the siblings was fixing clothes hanging on a metal clothesline outside their apartment. Authorities believe the victim accidentally touched the clothesline, which had become electrically energized, and cried for help.
Hearing the distress, the 19-year-old sibling rushed to assist, followed by the 12-year-old. Both were electrocuted after coming into contact with the same live area. A fourth sibling, the youngest, also attempted to help but stopped after feeling an electric current from a nearby window. The child then ran downstairs to seek help from neighbors.
Emergency response and investigation
Responders from the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office arrived shortly and brought the three victims to a hospital, but they could not be revived. Initial findings from the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) indicated that the circuit breaker connected to the apartment's air-conditioning unit appeared grounded, suggesting a possible electrical fault in the building's wiring system.
Investigators are continuing to examine the scene to determine the exact cause, including whether defective wiring or the energized metal clothesline triggered the fatal electrocutions.
