The City Government of Davao has officially opened a new public park, enhancing urban green spaces and recreational options for its residents. The Roxas Greenway Park was inaugurated on December 19, 2025, marking a significant addition to the city's landscape along the bustling Roxas Avenue in downtown Davao City.
A New Hub for Fitness and Community
Developed by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), this linear park stretches 398 meters and is designed as a multi-purpose area for health, leisure, and social interaction. The park's features are tailored to cater to a wide demographic, ensuring inclusivity for all ages.
Key amenities include landscaped pedestrian walkways, a dedicated physical fitness area, and beautifully arranged ornamental plants and trees. A standout feature is the Plaza Bridge, a designated gathering spot intended to foster community engagement.
Designed for Safety and Accessibility
Engr. Juancho Dagasohan, the Parks and Playground Division Head of CENRO, emphasized the park's design philosophy. He highlighted that the space provides a safe and accessible environment for walking and exercise, completely separated from vehicular traffic. The area is also well-lit, allowing Dabawenyos to enjoy the facilities safely, even at night.
"We encourage everyone to use the park," Dagasohan stated, while also appealing to the public's sense of stewardship. "We just need to maintain its cleanliness because this is ultimately for all of us."
A Testament to Sustainable Urban Vision
The inauguration ceremony featured a message from Acting City Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte, delivered by Councilor Myrna Dalodo Ortiz. The message framed the park as a concrete step towards Davao City's broader vision of a greener, more holistic urban environment.
"The establishment of the Roxas Greenway Park is not only a welcome addition to our tourism initiatives but also a testament to our collective efforts in fostering green spaces," the message read. It further noted the park's role in encouraging community engagement, strengthening environmental stewardship, and advocating for sustainable development.
A Legacy for Future Generations
The opening of the Roxas Greenway Park is more than just the launch of a new facility; it represents an investment in the city's future. Officials and planners see it as a lasting legacy project that will provide environmental, social, and health benefits for years to come.
Its success, however, is portrayed as a shared responsibility. The city government's call to action is clear: for the park to remain a vibrant and clean space, the active participation and care of every Dabawenyo who uses it are essential. This partnership between the government and citizens is key to sustaining the city's green transformation.
