The city of Cebu faced localized flooding on A. Bonifacio Street in Barangay Parian as Tropical Depression Basyang passed through the region. Officials have issued warnings about potential minor landslides expected on Saturday, although they emphasize that the situation remains under control and less severe than previous storms.
Official Statements on Safety and Preparedness
Councilor Dave Tumulak, chairman of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee, reassured residents that the city is safe and that emergency responders are on high alert. "We are safe at this time, and our responders remain vigilant," he stated. He highlighted that four mountainous barangays temporarily evacuated residents from low-lying and flood-prone areas, with most having already returned home. No major incidents or injuries have been reported so far.

The city has not escalated to a Red Alert status, but preparations are ongoing for possible rescue operations. Cebu City is mobilizing rescue, clearing, and search-and-rescue teams to assist southern areas most affected by the depression. Authorities attribute the anticipated landslides to soil softening but believe they will not be as severe as during Typhoon Tino, which involved prolonged rainfall prior to the storm. The city continues to monitor conditions closely to ensure public safety.
