The heat index in Cebu soared to 39 degrees Celsius at 1:00 PM on Sunday, April 26, 2026, according to data from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Visayas.
Record High at Mactan Station
The state weather bureau recorded this high heat index at the Mactan Station and warned of extreme heat and humidity conditions that could lead to heat-related stress on the body.
Preventive Measures Urged
Residents are advised to limit time outdoors, stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, and seek shade or cooler areas to avoid heat exhaustion. Cebu is expected to experience even hotter days in the coming weeks, as weather officials warn that temperatures will continue to rise, with the peak likely in May.
Weather Specialist's Statement
In a phone interview with SunStar Cebu on Sunday, Pagasa Visayas weather specialist Ana Dumdum said the heat index is expected to worsen by mid-May. Although the province has not yet reached levels classified under the "danger" category, Dumdum noted that the current conditions are already in the "extreme caution" range, which poses risks such as heat exhaustion and dehydration.
Residents are urged to take preventive measures, including staying hydrated and limiting outdoor activities during peak heat hours.
