Cebu Faces Danger-Level Heat Index at 42°C with Thunderstorms
Cebu Heat Index Hits 42°C Danger Zone

The state weather bureau has announced that Cebu can expect fair weather with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms, but the heat index is forecast to hit a dangerous 42 degrees Celsius.

Weather Forecast Details

Manny Agbay, a weather specialist for the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Visayas, reported that the province will experience generally fair conditions. However, isolated rains may occur in mountain barangays during the afternoon and evening hours.

Heat Index Reaches Danger Zone

Agbay emphasized that hot weather will persist despite the localized thunderstorms. The heat index, which measures how hot the air feels to the human body by combining relative humidity with air temperature, is expected to reach 42 degrees Celsius.

Under Pagasa's effect-based classification system, temperatures between 33 and 41 degrees Celsius fall under the extreme caution category, where heat cramps and heat exhaustion are possible. When the heat index climbs to 42 degrees Celsius and above, it enters the danger zone, making heat stroke probable with continued exposure.

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions, such as staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged outdoor activities, and wearing light clothing to mitigate the effects of the extreme heat.
