PAGASA: Northeast Monsoon Brings Cool Weather, Light Rains Across Luzon, Visayas
Northeast Monsoon Brings Cool Weather, Light Rains to Luzon, Visayas

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has announced that the northeast monsoon, locally known as "amihan," will persist in delivering cool weather conditions accompanied by light rains across significant portions of the country on Sunday. This weather pattern is particularly affecting Luzon and Visayas, according to the state weather bureau's latest advisory.

Detailed Regional Forecast for Sunday

In its 4 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA specified that several regions will experience cloudy skies with light rains due to the influence of the northeast monsoon. These areas include the Bicol Region, Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila, the remainder of Luzon, the rest of Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and Zamboanga Peninsula are forecast to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains, also attributed to the ongoing northeast monsoon activity.

Temperature Readings and Historical Data

PAGASA weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio provided specific temperature ranges expected for key locations. Baguio City is anticipated to see temperatures between 10°C and 22°C, while Tagaytay, Metro Manila, Laoag, and Tuguegarao will experience slightly warmer conditions, ranging from 18°C to 30°C.

Reflecting on recent weather patterns, Aurelio noted that a strong surge of the "amihan" on Saturday led to notably cooler temperatures. La Trinidad in Benguet recorded a low of 7.5°C, and Baguio City dropped to 9°C, highlighting the monsoon's cooling effect in elevated areas.

Mindanao Weather Conditions

In contrast to the northern and central regions, the rest of Mindanao is expected to experience different weather dynamics on Sunday. Localized thunderstorms are predicted to bring cloudy skies, occasionally developing into rain showers or thunderstorms across the area.

Wind and Coastal Warnings

PAGASA has issued important advisories regarding wind conditions and sea states. Northern Luzon and the eastern sections of Central Luzon and Southern Luzon are forecast to experience strong northeast winds, resulting in rough coastal waters that may pose hazards to maritime activities.

The remainder of the Philippine archipelago will see moderate to strong winds, leading to moderate to rough seas. These conditions underscore the broader impact of the northeast monsoon beyond just rainfall and temperature changes.

Residents and travelers in affected regions are advised to stay updated with PAGASA's latest forecasts and take necessary precautions, especially in areas prone to rough seas or sudden weather shifts.
