Pagasa Forecasts Continued Hot Weather with No Storms Expected Soon
Pagasa: Hot Weather to Continue, No Storms Expected

A weather specialist from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has announced that the country will continue to experience hot and humid conditions in the coming days, driven by prevailing easterlies, with no tropical cyclones expected in the near term. This forecast indicates a period of generally stable but increasingly warm weather across the Philippines.

Easterlies Bring Rising Temperatures

Joseph Merlas, the Pagasa specialist, explained that warm winds from the east are currently affecting the Philippines, resulting in generally fair weather but rising temperatures. He emphasized that no weather disturbances are being monitored, and no storms are expected to form over the weekend or within the next two weeks, providing a clear outlook for residents and authorities.

Shift from Amihan to Easterlies

Merlas added that the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan,” is no longer influencing the country, allowing the warmer easterlies to dominate. This meteorological shift is contributing to the higher temperatures being felt across many areas, marking a transition to a hotter phase in the weather pattern.

Heat Index and Safety Precautions

According to Pagasa, the heat index may reach 31 to 35 degrees Celsius, which could cause discomfort, especially during midday hours. The agency has reminded residents to take necessary precautions against the heat to avoid health risks such as heatstroke or dehydration.

Merlas advised staying hydrated, bringing umbrellas when outdoors to avoid direct sun exposure, and regularly checking weather updates for any changes. These measures are crucial for personal safety during the warmer days ahead.

Vigilance Amidst Calm Weather

While the absence of storms may bring relief from potential typhoons, authorities have urged continued vigilance, particularly in managing the effects of prolonged heat and ensuring personal safety. This includes monitoring local conditions and adhering to health guidelines during periods of elevated temperatures.
