Signal No. 2 Raised in Cebu as Tropical Depression Tino Approaches Land
Signal No. 2 Up in Cebu as Tino Nears Land

CEBU, Philippines - Several areas in Cebu are now under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 as Tropical Depression Tino continues its approach toward land, according to the latest bulletin from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Affected Areas and Weather Conditions

The state weather bureau has placed the following Cebu localities under TCWS No. 2: Bantayan Islands, Daanbantayan, Medellin, and the northern portion of San Remigio. Residents in these areas should prepare for damaging gale-force winds that may cause light to moderate damage to structures and vegetation.

Meanwhile, TCWS No. 1 remains hoisted over numerous other municipalities including Bogo City, Tabogon, Borbon, and several northern Cebu areas. These locations should expect strong winds moving at 39-61 kilometers per hour.

Heavy Rainfall and Flooding Threats

PAGASA warns that Tropical Depression Tino will bring moderate to heavy rainfall throughout Monday. The weather system is forecast to move generally westward or west-northwestward, potentially making landfall over the southern portion of Masbate or northern portion of Romblon.

"Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely," the weather advisory emphasized, particularly in areas that are highly susceptible to these hazards.

Maritime and Travel Advisories

Rough to very rough seas are anticipated over the coastal waters of areas under TCWS No. 2. PAGASA has issued a "gale warning" advising all types of sea vessels not to venture into these dangerous waters.

For the seaboards of Cebu under TCWS No. 1, moderate to rough seas are expected, making conditions risky for smaller boats and marine activities.

Precautionary Measures

Local disaster risk reduction and management offices are advised to take necessary precautionary measures. Residents in affected areas should:

  • Secure loose outdoor items that might be blown away by strong winds
  • Prepare emergency kits with essential supplies
  • Stay updated with the latest weather bulletins
  • Follow evacuation orders if issued by local authorities
  • Avoid unnecessary travel, especially in flood-prone areas

The public and disaster managers are urged to continue monitoring for updates as Tropical Depression Tino continues to develop and move across the region.
