Tropical Depression Monitored Outside PAR, No Direct Threat to Central Visayas
Tropical Depression Monitored, No Direct Threat to Central Visayas

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) is closely monitoring a tropical depression that may enter the country's monitoring zone from outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) in the coming week. However, this weather disturbance is not anticipated to directly affect Central Visayas, including the province of Cebu.

Weather Forecast for Central Visayas

According to Jhomer Eclarino, Visayas chief weather forecaster at Pagasa, Cebu and the broader Central Visayas region will continue to experience moderate to fair weather conditions until the end of this week and into the third week of April. Based on current analysis, the tropical depression has a low probability of making landfall and is likely to turn northward, minimizing its impact on the area.

Potential Intensification of the System

The weather bureau has indicated that the tropical depression could strengthen while over the sea, potentially developing into a storm. There is also a possibility, though not ruled out, that it could intensify into a super typhoon. Despite this, Central Visayas remains outside the direct path of the system, reducing immediate concerns for the region.

High Temperatures and Health Risks in Cebu

Currently, Cebu is experiencing high temperatures, with the heat index reaching the "extreme caution" category. This category signifies that the perceived heat is higher than the actual air temperature, posing significant health risks if precautions are not taken.

The heat index in this category typically ranges from 33°C to 41°C, increasing the likelihood of heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps and heat exhaustion, especially with prolonged exposure or physical activity. There is also a risk of heat stroke if exposure continues without adequate hydration and rest.

Health Advisory for Residents

Pagasa advises residents to take necessary precautions to mitigate the effects of the high heat. Recommendations include:

  • Drinking plenty of water regularly to stay hydrated.
  • Avoiding direct exposure to the sun, particularly during peak hours.
  • Taking breaks and resting in shaded or cool areas to prevent overheating.

By following these guidelines, individuals can reduce their risk of heat-related health issues while the region maintains its stable weather pattern amidst the monitored tropical depression.
