Filipina tennis star Alex Eala defeated Donna Vekic of Croatia, 7-5, 6-4, in their Round of 32 encounter at the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) 500 Berlin Tennis Open in Germany on Wednesday evening, June 17, 2036 (Philippine time).
The 21-year-old Eala now holds a 3-0 head-to-head record against the Croatian star, whom she also beat in the ASB Classic and the Kooyong Classic exhibition earlier this year.
"I told myself that she's fighting back, but I'm also a fighter so I have to try. I have to give her a hard time," said Eala, as quoted on www.abs-cbnnews.com.
"Donna is an incredible player. She's been showcasing it a lot lately and every time I play her, it's been very difficult so I had a lot of expectations for this match in terms of the level that I had to bring in and I'm happy with the intensity."
Eala, currently ranked world No. 35, advances to the Round of 16 where she will face world No. 2 Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan.
