Fatal Crash in Minglanilla
A 39-year-old motorcycle driver died after a collision with an SUV and a wing van on the national highway in Barangay Pakigne, Minglanilla, at around 3:02 a.m. on May 15, 2026.
The Minglanilla Police Station identified the victim as Joy Adams Abatayo Patentes, a resident of Barangay Tunghaan in the same town. He was declared dead on arrival at Minglanilla District Hospital due to severe injuries.
Details of the Incident
According to police investigation, Patentes was driving his Honda Click motorcycle southbound on the national highway. Ahead of him was a Toyota Fortuner driven by Tristan John Enclonar Añiga, 26, from Tres De Abril Street, Barangay Punta Princesa, Cebu City.
As they reached the area, the Fortuner driver signaled and turned right toward Barangay Tubod. However, due to high speed, Patentes was unable to brake or swerve, causing his motorcycle to crash into the rear of the Fortuner.
The impact threw Patentes onto the road, where he was hit by the front wheel of a passing wing van driven by Leonardo Intencia, 51, married, a native of Barangay Barrera, Sagay City, Negros Occidental.
Legal Action
Intencia was temporarily detained at the Minglanilla Police Station for proper disposition. He is scheduled to face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
