Over 3,000 Muslims Celebrate Eid al-Adha in Cebu

More than 3,000 Muslims gathered at Plaza Independencia in Cebu City on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, to celebrate Eid al-Adha through prayers, reflection, and communal gatherings. The event highlighted unity, faith, and shared humanity among worshippers from diverse backgrounds.

Unity and Faith Emphasized

Imam Nurdin Basang underscored that Eid al-Adha serves as a reminder of 'pagkakaisa' or unity, with Muslims coming together regardless of race, tribe, or culture. He noted that the celebration reflects faith, sacrifice, and shared humanity as the Islamic community strengthens devotion through prayer.

Eid al-Adha commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's obedience and devotion to Allah. Ustadz Danny Salim Daham explained that the sermon, known as the Khutbah, focuses on Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son. This story is central to the Qurban or Udhiyah tradition, which emphasizes sacrifice in Islam. Daham added that the observance is rooted in Wahy, or divine revelation, referring to the guidance Prophet Ibrahim received through a dream.
