Budget airline AirAsia Philippines has successfully mobilized a significant P15 million fund to bolster recovery initiatives in Cebu. This financial support is directed towards communities devastated by a series of earthquakes and typhoons that impacted the province in the final months of 2025.
Campaign and Concert Drive Fundraising Success
The substantial amount was officially revealed during a major Concert for a Cause held on January 16, 2026, in Cebu City. The event, which cleverly coincided with the vibrant Sinulog festivities, attracted a massive crowd of over 40,000 attendees. This fundraising effort was the culmination of the airline's "To the Philippines With Love" campaign.
The campaign was strategically linked to the celebratory reopening of AirAsia's Cebu operational hub in November 2025. In a clear commitment to corporate social responsibility, the AirAsia Group pledged to donate P15 for every seat sold on its flights during a specific two-month period. This donation window ran from November 15, 2025, to January 14, 2026.
Leadership Highlights Community Commitment
AirAsia Philippines President and CEO Suresh Bangah emphasized the deep significance of Cebu to the carrier's network strategy. He stated that this initiative powerfully underscores Cebu's vital role within both the Philippine and broader ASEAN operations of the airline. Bangah further affirmed that AirAsia remains dedicated to finding "meaningful ways" to provide tangible support to the local communities where it maintains a business presence.
Foundation to Manage Disbursement for Rebuilding
The P15 million in proceeds will be channeled and managed through the AirAsia Foundation. This ensures structured and impactful deployment of the resources. The foundation plans to collaborate directly with established grassroots organizations on the ground, such as the Bike Scouts.
The funding will focus on several critical areas of long-term recovery:
- Livelihood rebuilding for affected families.
- Programs to enhance disaster resilience in vulnerable communities.
- Restoration of shared community infrastructure that is essential for daily life.
In implementing these projects, priority will be given to geographic areas that were hardest-hit by the disasters and to communities that are typically underserved, ensuring aid reaches those who need it most.
