In the first half of February 2026, a series of surgical and community medical missions brought significant health benefits to 639 residents across Cebu Province. These initiatives, organized in collaboration with multiple health institutions, aimed to address critical healthcare needs while enhancing the local hospital system.
Major Surgical Operations Conducted
According to Capitol Health Consultant Dr. Nikki Catalan, the surgical mission commenced from February 9 to 12 at the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Carcar. During this period, a total of 69 major operations were successfully performed. The Provincial Health Office emphasized that these efforts were designed to provide relief and meet the health requirements of Cebuanos, as ongoing improvements to hospital infrastructure continue.
Scope of Medical Procedures
The four-day surgical mission encompassed a wide range of specialized procedures. These included gynecologic surgeries, laparoscopic gallbladder removal, hernia repair, goiter removal, and ear, nose, and throat operations. Additionally, services covered the excision of cysts and various other procedures for conditions such as hemorrhoids, fistula, and breast-related issues.
Expanded Community Outreach
Simultaneously, another set of medical missions was conducted from February 11 to 14, extending care to 624 patients in various localities throughout the province. This broader outreach ensured that more residents had access to essential medical services, further supporting community health initiatives.
Collaborative Efforts and Partnerships
The success of these missions was made possible through partnerships with key organizations, including the West Coast Surgical Mission Society, Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, and Healthway Cebu Velez General Hospital. These collaborations highlight a concerted effort to bolster healthcare delivery and accessibility in Cebu Province.
