DOH sends mental health teams to Mindanao quake victims

The Department of Health (DOH) has deployed teams to provide psychosocial assistance to victims of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao.

In a social media post, Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa announced that Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) teams have been sent to various areas affected by the earthquake.

"MHPSS response activities in the affected areas are scheduled to begin on 12 June 2026," Herbosa said on Thursday, June 11, 2026.

According to him, a total of eight MHPSS teams composed of personnel from the Centers for Health Development (CHDs) and local government units (LGUs) have been deployed across Soccsksargen.

The health official added that three MHPSS teams were also sent by the DOH to the Davao Region.

"They are currently providing services in the evacuation sites, with five members assigned to each team," Herbosa stated.

Earthquake details

On Monday morning, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit the province of Sarangani and was also felt in other parts of Mindanao.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that approximately 86,135 families were affected by the tremor.
