Lapu-Lapu City Hospital Achieves Medical Milestone with First Intraoperative Cholangiography
Lapu-Lapu Hospital's First Intraoperative Cholangiography Success

Lapu-Lapu City Hospital (LLCH) has achieved a significant medical milestone by successfully conducting its first intraoperative cholangiography procedure during gallbladder surgery (cholecystectomy) on February 8, 2026. This groundbreaking event represents a major advancement in the city's medical services through the implementation of cutting-edge C-arm technology.

Revolutionizing Surgical Precision with Modern Technology

The successful operation was made possible by the hospital's newly acquired C-arm machine, which enables doctors to obtain real-time imaging guidance during surgical procedures. This modern technology facilitates safe and accurate visualization of the biliary tree through the use of special contrast dye.

Enhanced Patient Safety and Surgical Outcomes

The C-arm system clearly displays bile duct pathways, helps identify the location of gallstones, reduces the risk of damage to surrounding tissues, and ensures that no stones remain in the gallbladder after surgery. This technological advancement significantly improves both surgical precision and patient safety outcomes.

Hospital Administrator Lynart Kevin Omnes emphasized that this achievement demonstrates the institution's commitment to investing in modern technology to enhance treatment capabilities and maintain the highest standards of patient safety.

"Our goal is to consistently provide accessible, innovative, and high quality healthcare to our community, ensuring that every patient receives the best possible treatment," stated Omnes.

Government Support and Previous Technological Successes

Omnes further noted that this accomplishment would not have been possible without the support of local government officials, particularly Mayor Ma. Cynthia 'Cindi' Chan, whom he praised for prioritizing health initiatives.

This recent achievement follows another technological milestone at LLCH in January, when the hospital performed its first major orthopedic surgery using C-arm technology. While commonly employed in bone operations, this equipment is now being utilized for various general surgical procedures, including C-arm guided closed tube thoracostomy.

Expanding Medical Applications

LLCH currently employs the C-arm system for diverse interventional radiology services such as nephrostomy tube insertion, cholecystostomy tube placement, and percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage procedures.
