President Marcos Reaffirms Philippines' Commitment to Women's Empowerment at United Nations
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has declared the Philippines' readiness to collaborate with all nations in empowering, protecting, and advancing the welfare of women. During his address at the 70th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on Monday, the President underscored the critical role of women in decision-making across various sectors.
Women's Participation in Key Decision-Making Roles
In his speech, President Marcos highlighted the essential participation of women in shaping important decisions within government, business, science, diplomacy, and peace-building efforts. He stressed that their involvement is not just beneficial but necessary for sustainable development and progress.
Focus on Education and Economic Empowerment
The President called on countries to strive towards providing education and economic empowerment for women. He emphasized that economic empowerment is equally as crucial as education, advocating for equal access to employment, financial resources, entrepreneurship opportunities, and leadership positions for women worldwide.
Combating Violence and Promoting Cultural Change
Furthermore, President Marcos urged nations to remain united in addressing all forms of violence against women. He pointed out that such violence undermines dignity, weakens communities, and erodes the foundations of justice. The President asserted that achieving true equality requires not only policy reforms but also a shift in cultural attitudes and norms.
This commitment aligns with the Philippines' ongoing efforts to promote gender equality and protect women's rights on both domestic and international stages.
