Over 4.1 Million Displaced in Middle East Amid Ongoing Tensions, UN Reports
The United Nations has revealed that more than 4.1 million individuals have been forced to flee their homes in countries including Afghanistan, Iran, Lebanon, and Pakistan since the onset of ongoing tensions in the Middle East. This announcement was made by a UN spokesperson on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
Significant Refugee Numbers and Humanitarian Concerns
According to Stéphane Dujarric, the chief spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, approximately 117,000 people have sought refuge in other nations. Dujarric cited data from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, highlighting the severe impact of the conflict on civilian populations.
Based on information from UN humanitarian agencies, the Middle East region is identified as one of the areas globally with the highest number of people in need of humanitarian assistance. Dujarric emphasized, "The recent escalation risks deepening civilian suffering and causing further damage to already fragile civilian infrastructure."
