Iran Issues Grave Warning to US and Israel Over National Assets
Iran has escalated tensions in the Middle East by threatening to launch devastating retaliatory operations against the United States and Israel if their national assets are targeted. This stark warning was delivered by Ali Abdollahi, head of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, in a report published by the Fars news agency. Abdollahi emphasized that Iran's armed forces are fully prepared to execute destructive strikes against Israeli facilities and US military assets across West Asia.
Deadline Expires Amid Rising Regional Tensions
The threat was issued on Saturday, coinciding with the expiration of a ten-day deadline set by former US President Donald Trump. Trump had demanded that Iran either negotiate a deal or open the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz by Monday. In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, "Remember when I gave Iran ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT," adding, "Time is running out -- 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them."
Abdollahi condemned Trump's actions, stating, "After having admitted successive defeats, the aggressive and warmongering president of the United States has, in a desperate, nervous, unbalanced and foolish move, threatened to target Iran's infrastructure and national assets." He affirmed Iran's unwavering commitment to defend its sovereignty and protect its properties without hesitation.
Background of Escalating Conflicts
The current crisis stems from a series of escalating incidents. On March 21, Trump threatened to destroy Iran's power plants if the country failed to fully open the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours. However, he later extended this deadline by five days following what he described as productive discussions with Tehran. These developments occur against a backdrop of heightened regional tensions, which intensified after simultaneous attacks by the US and Israel on Iran on February 28.
In response to those attacks, Iran and its allies have already launched counterstrikes against Israeli and American interests throughout the Middle East. The situation remains volatile, with both sides poised for potential further confrontation.
Implications for Global Stability
This latest warning from Iran underscores the fragile state of affairs in West Asia. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments, is at the center of the dispute, raising concerns about international trade and energy security. As diplomatic efforts appear strained, the risk of military escalation looms large, potentially drawing in other regional actors and impacting global geopolitics.
