US Proposes 15-Point Peace Plan to Iran via Pakistan Amid Ongoing Conflict
In a significant diplomatic move, the United States has transmitted a 15-point peace plan to Iran through Pakistan, as reported by The New York Times on Tuesday. This initiative aims to bring an end to the war between the two nations, which has now entered its fourth week, citing two anonymous officials familiar with the matter.
Administration's Objectives and Plan Details
The Trump administration is actively seeking a pathway to resolve the conflict while grappling with its economic repercussions, according to the report. The comprehensive plan specifically addresses Iran's ballistic missile and nuclear programs, along with critical maritime routes, notably the Strait of Hormuz. However, it remains uncertain how extensively the plan has been shared with Iranian officials and whether Tehran will accept it as a basis for negotiations. Additionally, Israel's stance on this proposal has not been disclosed.
Israeli Media Reports and Plan Provisions
Israel's Channel 12 corroborated the news on Tuesday, stating that Washington has presented Tehran with a 15-point plan for a one-month ceasefire deal. Based on their sources, advisors to President Donald Trump, including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, are driving this effort for an immediate cessation of hostilities. The plan allocates a 30-day period to refine and implement its terms.
Key demands outlined in the proposal include:
- Iran must dismantle its nuclear capabilities.
- All uranium enrichment activities must be halted.
- Iran must provide a permanent commitment to forgo seeking nuclear weapons.
Furthermore, Tehran is required to cease arming and supporting allied groups in the region and ensure the Strait of Hormuz remains open for international trade.
Incentives and Current Military Situation
In exchange for compliance, the United States offers:
- Complete removal of sanctions.
- Assistance in developing Iran's civilian nuclear energy project in Bushehr.
- Elimination of the threat posed by the snapback mechanism, which could reinstate previous UN sanctions against Iran.
Despite these diplomatic efforts, there are no immediate signs of the war abating. The White House confirmed on Tuesday that while diplomacy continues, military attacks against Iran persist unabated.
