Indian National Assaulted Over Debt in Banilad

A 21-year-old Indian national sustained injuries on her face and neck after being scratched and slapped by another foreign national over a debt in Barangay Banilad, Cebu City, on Wednesday, June 17. The incident occurred between the victim, identified as alias Sushmita, and the suspect, alias Rashid, a 24-year-old Indian national and medical student.

Incident Details

According to police investigation, the two had an argument prior to the assault. The victim stated that the suspect suddenly scratched her neck and face, causing wounds, in addition to biting and slapping her. The suspect, however, denied the allegations when interviewed by authorities.

Suspect's Defense

In his defense, Rashid claimed he merely grabbed the victim's hand after she pulled and twisted his t-shirt when he demanded payment for the debt he had lent her. He added that he needed the money for his school allowance, but the victim, who frequently borrowed money from him, became angry instead.

Resolution

When both parties faced each other at the police station, they reached an agreement, and the victim decided not to pursue filing a case.
