One person was killed and more than 60 others were injured after a series of drone strikes targeted Kuwait International Airport amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran. The Kuwait Ministry of Defence described the incident as “criminal Iranian aggression,” while the foreign ministry reported that several diplomatic missions were damaged in the attack.
Iran Claims Responsibility
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for the operation, stating it was retaliation for recent American actions against an Iranian oil tanker and Qeshm Island. Iran also asserted that its strikes targeted U.S. bases across the Gulf region.
Casualties and International Response
The deceased was identified as an Indian national. India’s foreign ministry confirmed that several Indian citizens were among the wounded and called for immediate de-escalation. In response, Kuwait ordered two Iranian diplomats to leave the country within 24 hours and summoned the Iranian chargé d’affaires.
US and Iran Exchange Strikes
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported conducting overnight strikes on Qeshm Island in response to what it described as planned Iranian attacks in the Middle East. CENTCOM also stated that it intercepted several Iranian drones and missiles over Kuwait, Bahrain, and civilian maritime routes. Iran countered that it had retaliated with missile and drone strikes against U.S. bases and helicopter operations in an unnamed regional country, accusing Kuwait and Bahrain of direct interference.
