PBBM to Attend ASEAN-Russia Summit, Meet Putin

Malacañang has confirmed that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is scheduled to travel to Russia for an official working visit from June 17 to June 19, 2026. The President is expected to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin during the ASEAN-Russia Summit to be held in Kazan, Russia.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that they are looking forward to President Marcos's attendance at the summit. Lavrov noted that the summit will deepen the 35-year relationship between Russia and ASEAN in areas such as trade, investment, energy, agriculture, digitalization, science, education, tourism, and culture.

Lavrov also praised what he described as the Philippines' balanced position on the war in Ukraine and reiterated Russia's opposition to militarization in the Asia-Pacific region.

Meanwhile, cooperation in tourism is expected to be further strengthened under the ASEAN-Russia work plan for 2026. Kazan, considered Russia's third capital, has become an important venue for the country's multilateral meetings.
