Vice President Sara Duterte has stated that she accepts the recent decisions of the International Criminal Court (ICC) regarding its jurisdiction and the confirmation of charges against former President Rodrigo Duterte. The Vice President made this statement during an interview in The Hague, Netherlands, after visiting her father.
VP Sara's Reaction to ICC Rulings
According to VP Sara, following the international tribunal's latest decisions, she believes the former President's defense team needs to move on and prepare for trial. She added that they do not see the ICC dropping the case against her father. The Vice President expressed the same response regarding the confirmation of charges, stating that the best way forward is to prepare for the trial.
Visit to Former President Duterte
During her visit, VP Sara shared that her father appears to be in good health and without any problems. She advised him to undergo physiotherapy, but he reportedly refused. The Vice President is currently in The Hague after Malacañang allowed her to travel abroad from May 2 to 15.
Upcoming Court Proceedings
In a recent development, Trial Chamber III has ordered the prosecution, defense, and victims' representatives to submit their observations on Duterte's continued detention by Friday, May 8. Meanwhile, Trial Chamber III is scheduled to hold a status conference on the crimes against humanity case against Duterte on May 27.
VP Sara also thanked the supporters and continues to hope that their father will return to the Philippines.
