Cebu Road Accidents Injure Multiple Before Dawn

Two separate road accidents occurred in Cebu City in the early morning hours of Tuesday, December 23, 2025, leaving several individuals injured. The incidents, which took place in Barangay Labangon and Barangay Basak Pardo, both involved multiple motorcycles and resulted in hospitalizations.

First Collision in Labangon at 4 AM

The first accident was reported at 4:00 AM near Labsalex in Barangay Labangon. The collision involved two motorcycles traveling in opposite directions. According to initial reports, 63-year-old Condrado Bantilan was attempting to make a U-turn to drop off his fish for sale when his motorcycle was struck by another rider.

The other rider, identified as 34-year-old Reno Amaya, claimed he did not see Bantilan and that he was traveling at a slow speed. Bantilan suffered a broken leg and was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. Amaya, who is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, sustained facial abrasions but refused to be taken to a medical facility.

Second Multi-Vehicle Pile-Up in Basak Pardo

Shortly after, at around 4:15 AM, a more serious accident unfolded in Barangay Basak Pardo. This incident involved three motorcycles and one taxi. An investigation revealed that the taxi and two of the motorcycles were stationary at the time.

They were suddenly struck from behind by a yellow-green motorcycle driven by an individual using the alias "James." James stated that his brakes failed to function at that critical moment. The force of the initial impact caused a chain reaction, with the two parked motorcycles being pushed into the taxi.

James sustained minor injuries to his hand and is also suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol. The conditions of other possible victims in this second crash are being verified.

Aftermath and Ongoing Investigation

Authorities are currently investigating both incidents to determine the exact sequence of events and establish full liability. The early hour of the accidents and the suspected involvement of alcohol in both cases are key points of the probe.

These back-to-back incidents highlight ongoing concerns about road safety in Cebu City, particularly during the early morning hours. They serve as a stark reminder for all motorists to exercise extreme caution, ensure their vehicles are in proper working order, and never operate a vehicle under the influence.
