A tragic hit-and-run accident claimed the life of a tricycle driver in Cebu City in the early hours of Sunday, December 28, 2025. The incident occurred along the northbound lane of the South Road Properties (SRP), near the viaduct of the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX).
Details of the Fatal Collision
The Cebu City Police Office's Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) received an emergency call at around 1:59 AM regarding a road accident. Upon responding to the scene, officers found a male victim already motionless on the pavement. The victim, who was driving a tricycle, had suffered severe injuries.
Initial reports and statements from CCLEX personnel indicate that the tricycle was suddenly struck by a sedan-type vehicle. The force of the impact was so powerful that it threw the driver from his vehicle onto the concrete road.
Driver Flees the Scene
The most critical detail of the incident is that the sedan driver did not stop. A review of available CCTV footage confirmed that after hitting the tricycle, the vehicle continued driving and fled the scene without offering assistance.
The tricycle driver sustained catastrophic head and body trauma from the crash and the subsequent fall. These injuries resulted in his immediate death at the location. His body was later transported to a funeral home in Cebu City.
