The town of Santa Rita in Pampanga is gearing up for its much-anticipated annual Duman Festival, a vibrant celebration of local heritage and its signature delicacy. Organized by the arts group ArtiSta.Rita and the Municipal Government of Santa Rita, the event is scheduled for December 6, 2025, at the Santa Rita de Cascia Parish Church Grounds.
Festival Highlights and Schedule
The festivities will officially commence at 4 PM, transforming the church grounds into a hub of culinary and cultural activity. Attendees can look forward to an array of food stalls and alfresco dining areas offering a taste of authentic Kapampangan dishes and delicacies. A major highlight of the evening will be the staging of "Alang Imposibli The Musical" at 6 PM, adding a dramatic flair to the celebrations.
The Star of the Show: What is Duman?
At the heart of the festival is duman, the unique seasonal delicacy that inspires the event. Launched in 2002, the festival honors this traditional cereal made from unripe red glutinous rice (lakatan malutu). The process of roasting and pounding the rice gives duman its distinctive pale green color. This delicacy is traditionally produced at the start of the Christmas season and is a central part of Santa Rita's cultural identity.
A Draw for Tourists and Culture Enthusiasts
The festival consistently proves to be a significant attraction, drawing both local and international tourists to the town. The performance by ArtiSta.Rita is a key crowd-puller, alongside various booths where visitors can purchase duman and other products made by local residents. This yearly gathering not only showcases the town's famed treat but also strengthens its religious and cultural traditions, making it a cornerstone event in Pampanga's festive calendar.
