Holy Cross College Students Construct 16-Foot Lantern from Traditional Filipino Rice Delicacies
In a remarkable display of creativity and cultural pride, Hospitality Management students at Holy Cross College in Santa Ana town have crafted an extraordinary 16-foot giant lantern entirely from various Filipino rice delicacies. This unique project was developed as part of the school's Tourism and Hospitality Days celebration, blending culinary artistry with traditional craftsmanship.
A Week of Dedicated Design and Construction
The ambitious creation required nearly a full week of meticulous planning and execution by the dedicated student team. Working collaboratively, they designed and assembled the lantern using an array of traditional kakanin or rice-based treats. The materials included colorful and textured delicacies such as puto, kutsinta, ube halaya, palitaw, sapin-sapin, and suman bulagta, each contributing to the lantern's vibrant and intricate appearance.
Celebrating Kapampangan Culture and Hospitality Skills
School officials emphasized that the initiative served multiple important purposes. Primarily, it was designed to showcase strong support for Kapampangan culture, highlighting regional traditions through an innovative medium.
