In a decisive response to a growing public health threat, Aventus Medical Care Inc. is significantly expanding its specialized Animal Bite Center services across the Philippines. This move comes directly after the Department of Health reported a alarming 426 fatal rabies cases in the country throughout 2024.
Immediate Care for Animal Exposure
Rabies is a disease that is almost always fatal once symptoms appear, but it is entirely preventable with prompt and proper medical intervention. The expanded network of Aventus clinics, now spanning 23 branches in Luzon and the Visayas, is designed to provide that critical early care.
Dr. Donabel Pineda, the Medical Director of Aventus Medical Care Inc., emphasized their comprehensive approach. "We treat patients with a history of scratches, bites, or even licked open wounds," she stated. "We ensure that they receive immediate attention."
Comprehensive Treatment and Accessible Services
The company offers a complete Animal Bite Care Package tailored to the patient's specific exposure. This package includes:
- Anti-rabies vaccination
- Rabies Immunoglobulin, administered based on the category of exposure
- Tetanus shots, depending on the patient's vaccination history
Accessibility is a core focus of this expansion. Patients can simply walk into any Aventus clinic without needing a prior appointment. For those who cannot travel, such as families with young children or individuals in remote areas, the company provides a Home Health Service where assistance can be requested.
Boosting Awareness and Future Accreditation
Beyond direct patient care, Aventus is actively working to increase public knowledge about rabies prevention. The company has been conducting internal rabies-awareness webinars for its employees and is planning a public session to educate the wider community.
In a significant step to improve affordability and access, Aventus is also preparing to establish Philhealth-accredited Animal Bite Centers. This initiative aims to further widen access to these life-saving treatments for all Filipinos.
