DOH Launches 'Ligtas Christmas 2025' for Safer PH Holidays
DOH Urges Public to Support 'Ligtas Christmas 2025'

The Department of Health (DOH) made a public appeal on Friday, December 19, 2025, for nationwide support of its "Ligtas Christmas 2025" campaign. This initiative is designed to protect the health and safety of all Filipinos during the Christmas and New Year festivities.

Steering Clear of Holiday Health Hazards

The health agency specifically warned against common seasonal "bad habits" that endanger well-being. These dangerous practices range from the overindulgence in specific food groups and substances to neglecting basic safety measures.

A primary focus is on the so-called "4Ms" in food: matamis (sweets), maalat (salty), mataba (fatty), and mamantika (oily) dishes. The DOH emphasized that excessive consumption of these can act as triggers for serious conditions like hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease.

Other highlighted risks include heavy alcohol intake, smoking and vaping, combined with a lack of physical activity and sleep deprivation often caused by prolonged gatherings and excessive screen time.

The DOH's Prescription for a Healthy Celebration: TED and BiyaHealthy

To combat these threats, the Department is promoting the "TED" framework, which stands for Tamang Pagkain, Ehersisyo, at Disiplina (Proper Food, Exercise, and Discipline). This program encourages families to adopt healthier holiday traditions by:

  • Cutting down on the 4Ms in their meals.
  • Avoiding excessive alcohol consumption.
  • Maintaining regular meal schedules.
  • Observing safe food-handling practices, with proper handwashing being paramount.

For those traveling, the DOH reiterated its "BiyaHealthy" road safety reminders. The agency stressed the importance of vehicle readiness using the BLOW-BAG-SET checklist (Brakes, Lights, Oil, Water, Battery, Accessories, Gas/Fuel, Self, Electrical, and Tires).

The public is strongly advised to avoid driving when sleepy or intoxicated, to always wear DTI-approved helmets and seatbelts, to stay alert on the road, and to refrain from using gadgets while behind the wheel.

Continuing the Push for an 'Iwas Paputok' Holiday

Under the ongoing "Iwas Paputok" initiative, the health department continues to advocate for safer revelry. Communities and families are encouraged to attend organized public fireworks displays instead of using personal firecrackers. The DOH also promotes the use of safe, alternative noisemakers and reminds everyone to keep emergency hotlines accessible throughout the holiday period.

By following these comprehensive guidelines, the DOH aims to ensure that the joy of the season is not marred by preventable accidents or health emergencies, allowing all Filipinos to welcome 2026 in a safe and healthy manner.
