Iloilo City Health Office Introduces Comprehensive Free Health Program for Women
The Iloilo City Health Office (CHO) is set to launch a groundbreaking initiative titled "Healthy Ka, Ilongga!," a one-stop integrated health service delivery program specifically designed for women. This program will be rolled out across nine district health centers from March 16 to 20, 2026, aligning with the nationwide celebration of National Women's Month. The primary goal is to enhance accessibility and convenience for Ilongga women by consolidating a wide range of essential health services into a single, free visit.
Empowering Women Through Accessible Healthcare
City Health Officer Dr. Mary Ann Poli-Diaz emphasized that this initiative reflects Mayor Raisa S. Treñas's commitment to making healthcare more accessible. "Mayor Raisa S. Treñas has consistently highlighted the critical need for accessible healthcare. Through 'Healthy Ka, Ilongga!,' we aim to make Ilongga women feel supported and empowered to prioritize their health," Poli-Diaz stated. The program targets a diverse group of beneficiaries, including women of reproductive age, pregnant and postpartum mothers, adolescents, and senior citizens, addressing the unique health challenges each group faces.
Overcoming Barriers to Health Services
Poli-Diaz pointed out that many women, mothers, and adolescents encounter significant obstacles when trying to access multiple health services. These barriers often include long distances to healthcare facilities, time constraints due to work or family responsibilities, and a lack of awareness about available programs. By offering a one-stop service delivery model, the CHO aims to eliminate these hurdles, allowing women to receive comprehensive care efficiently.
Comprehensive Services Offered
The "Healthy Ka, Ilongga!" program will provide an extensive array of health services all in one location. Participants can benefit from:
- Maternal and reproductive health consultations
- Family planning services
- Cancer prevention screenings
- Medical and dental consultations
- Tuberculosis screening
- Nutrition assessment
- Health education sessions
Additionally, HIV testing will be available, and the CHO will facilitate referrals to appropriate health facilities when specialized care is needed. This initiative supports the objectives of the Maternal, Newborn and Child Health and Nutrition (MNCHN) Program, as well as other public health efforts by the City Health Office focused on improving the overall health and well-being of women in Iloilo City.
A Step Towards Better Public Health
This program represents a significant advancement in public health strategy, leveraging integrated services to promote preventive care and early intervention. By making these services free and easily accessible, the CHO hopes to encourage more women to take proactive steps in managing their health, ultimately contributing to a healthier community. The timing during National Women's Month underscores the city's dedication to recognizing and addressing the specific health needs of women, fostering a culture of wellness and empowerment across Iloilo City.
