PhilHealth YAKAP Program Launches Free Check-ups and Affordable Medicines in Cebu
PhilHealth YAKAP Offers Free Check-ups, Cheap Meds in Cebu

In a significant move to improve healthcare accessibility, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has officially launched its YAKAP (Yaman ng Kalusugan Para Malayo sa Sakit) program in Cebu. This initiative aims to provide free medical check-ups and more affordable medicines for PhilHealth members, ensuring that patients can receive essential treatments without the need for hospital visits whenever possible.

Comprehensive Healthcare Services

Dr. Teodoro Herbosa, the Secretary of PhilHealth, emphasized that the program is designed to prevent patients from relying on hospitals by offering outpatient care directly. The YAKAP program includes a robust package of services valued at up to P20,000 for outpatient medicines. Additionally, it covers free consultations, laboratory tests, and cancer screenings for both PhilHealth members and their dependents.

Early Detection and Preventive Measures

A key goal of the YAKAP program is to facilitate early disease detection, thereby preventing conditions from worsening. To support this, the program reduces costs for various laboratory procedures, such as complete blood count (CBC), urinalysis, lipid profile, blood sugar tests, chest X-rays, and electrocardiograms (ECG). By making these tests more accessible, PhilHealth hopes to encourage proactive health management among Filipinos.

Streamlined Access Through Technology

To simplify the process for patients, PhilHealth has introduced the GAMOT app, which allows members to download their unique QR codes. This digital tool enables seamless claiming of medicines at accredited pharmacies without any additional charges. The integration of technology aims to enhance convenience and efficiency in accessing healthcare benefits.

The launch of the YAKAP program in Cebu marks a pivotal step in PhilHealth's efforts to expand healthcare coverage and promote preventive care. By offering free check-ups and affordable medicines, the initiative seeks to alleviate financial burdens on patients and improve overall public health outcomes in the region.
